The Upstate SC Hepatitis C Coalition was formed in 2002 after a group of people with Hepatitis C decided to start meeting for support. As the main contact person, Marnie Schwartz heard firsthand how Hepatitis C was affecting the people of the upstate of South Carolina and started doing something about it. She formed the Coalition in order to connect the many people afflicted with Hepatitis C with health clinics that would treat patients without insurance, to make resources to help the communities more readily available and to promote awareness of the need for organ donation and testing for Hepatitis C.
